About the Role
The National Association for Athletes' Mental Health (NAAMH) is dedicated to advocating for and supporting the mental well-being of athletes at all levels. We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Volunteer Staff Attorney to join our team. This role is essential in providing legal support, developing contracts, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulations, and assisting with policy development.
As a Volunteer Staff Attorney, you will leverage your legal expertise to support NAAMH’s mission and operations. Your ability to draft and review contracts, navigate regulatory requirements, and provide sound legal advice will be crucial in advancing our initiatives and protecting our organization.
Job Function
Contract Development: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements to support NAAMH’s programs, partnerships, and operations.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations, providing guidance on legal requirements related to mental health and nonprofit activities.
Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures to support NAAMH’s mission and operations.
Legal Advice: Provide legal advice and support to NAAMH’s leadership team on a variety of issues, including employment law, intellectual property, and risk management.
Document Management: Maintain and organize legal documents, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
Training: Conduct training sessions for staff and volunteers on legal and compliance matters, including HIPAA and contract management.
Research: Conduct legal research to stay informed about current laws, regulations, and best practices relevant to NAAMH’s activities.
Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving legal disputes and managing any litigation involving the organization.
Requirements
Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on nonprofit law, healthcare law, or contract law.
Licensure: Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
Contract Expertise: Strong experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant regulations affecting mental health and nonprofit organizations.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal staff.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting legal research and staying informed about changes in relevant laws and regulations.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in legal work.
Passion: A genuine passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to supporting athletes’ mental well-being.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
Tech Savvy: Proficiency with legal research tools, document management systems, and Microsoft Office.
