About the Role
The National Association for Athletes' Mental Health (NAAMH) is dedicated to advocating for and supporting the mental well-being of athletes at all levels. We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Volunteer Public Relations Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in managing our public image, increasing awareness of our mission, and building strong relationships with the media and community.
As a Volunteer Public Relations Specialist, you will leverage your expertise in public relations to create and implement communication strategies that highlight our initiatives and impact. Your ability to craft compelling narratives and engage with media outlets will be crucial in promoting NAAMH's mission and programs.
Job Function
Media Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure coverage for NAAMH’s activities and initiatives.
Press Releases: Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other PR materials to promote key events, programs, and milestones.
Content Creation: Develop compelling content for press kits, newsletters, blogs, social media, and other communication channels to engage and inform the public.
Brand Management: Ensure consistent and positive representation of NAAMH’s brand and messaging across all media and public platforms.
Crisis Communication: Manage crisis communication efforts to protect and maintain NAAMH’s reputation during challenging situations.
Event Promotion: Support the promotion of events, fundraising campaigns, and other initiatives to maximize public engagement and participation.
Monitoring: Monitor media coverage and public perception of NAAMH, providing regular reports and recommendations to the executive team.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment of messaging and communication strategies.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in public relations, communications, or a related role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
Media Relations: Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with media outlets and securing media coverage.
Writing Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging, and impactful content.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences.
Brand Management: Experience in managing and promoting an organizational brand.
Crisis Management: Knowledge of crisis communication strategies and best practices.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.
Passion: A genuine passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to supporting athletes’ mental well-being.
Tech Savvy: Proficiency with PR and media monitoring tools, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
