About the Role

The National Association for Athletes' Mental Health (NAAMH) is dedicated to advocating for and supporting the mental well-being of athletes at all levels. We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Volunteer Policy Development Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in developing policies that promote the importance of athletes' mental health, staying informed on relevant legislation, and ensuring compliance across different states.

As a Volunteer Policy Development Specialist, you will leverage your expertise in policy and legislation to craft, implement, and advocate for policies that support NAAMH's mission. Your ability to stay informed about bills, rules, and regulations and ensure adherence will be crucial in advancing our cause and promoting mental health initiatives for athletes nationwide.

Job Function
Policy Development: Develop and implement policies that promote and support athletes' mental health in alignment with NAAMH’s mission and goals.
Legislative Monitoring: Stay informed about current and emerging bills, rules, and regulations related to mental health and athletes at both the state and federal levels.
Compliance: Ensure that NAAMH's policies and practices comply with relevant legislation and regulations.
Advocacy: Advocate for policy changes and advancements in different states to further promote the mental health of athletes.
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including legislators, mental health professionals, and sports organizations, to support policy initiatives.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of policies, legislative changes, and advocacy efforts.
Training: Provide training and guidance to staff and volunteers on policy-related matters and compliance requirements.
Research: Conduct research on best practices in mental health policies for athletes and incorporate findings into policy development.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Law, Political Science, or a related field.

  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in policy development, legislative analysis, or a related role, preferably within the non-profit sector.

  • Legislative Knowledge: Strong understanding of legislative processes, bills, and regulations related to mental health and sports.

  • Policy Expertise: Proven experience in developing and implementing effective policies.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and persuade diverse stakeholders.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.

  • Advocacy Skills: Demonstrated ability to advocate for policy changes and engage with legislative bodies.

  • Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting thorough and accurate research.

  • Passion: A genuine passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to supporting athletes’ mental well-being.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with relevant software and tools, such as policy tracking systems, Microsoft Office, and research databases.
