About the Role
The National Association for Athletes' Mental Health (NAAMH) is dedicated to promoting and supporting the mental well-being of athletes. The Clinical Lead will provide expert mental health guidance throughout the course design and development process. This volunteer will ensure that the curriculum is clinically accurate, culturally competent, and aligned with best practices in mental health first aid. This is a critical volunteer role that directly impacts the quality, credibility, and safety of NAAMH’s programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight for course content, including workshops, scenarios, and training materials
- Review and approve educational materials for accuracy, clarity, and safety
- Advise on best practices for mental health support, crisis management, and referral protocols
- Collaborate with curriculum designers and mental performance coaches to ensure content is athlete-focused
- Ensure all materials and messaging comply with ethical and legal standards in mental health
- Offer guidance on inclusivity, cultural competency, and accessibility for all participants
- Participate in regular development meetings (virtual or in-person)
- Support pilot testing by reviewing facilitator and participant feedback
Requirements
Licensed mental health professional (e.g., Psychologist, LCSW, LMHC, LPC)
Experience working with athletes, youth, or performance populations preferred
Strong understanding of mental health first aid principles, crisis response, and referral practices
Excellent communication and collaborative skills
Passion for supporting athlete mental wellness
Prior experience in training, curriculum development, or educational workshops is a plus
Preferred
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing creative ideas and insights to
program development and marketing initiatives.
Availability to travel locally for workshop sessions and attend weekly team meetings.
Familiarity with basic data collection and reporting tools, such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, preferred but not required.
Time Commitment
Approximately 5–8 hours per week during course development (estimated 3–4 months)
Participation in planning and review meetings
Availability to review materials and provide feedback on schedule
